One of the best parts about Vancouver is its diverse culture. People from all over the world migrate to Canada for a better life. We spoke to Indian immigrants and students to see how they really feel about life here, their experiences, and how Vancouver compares to their lives back in India.
What does Vancouver look like for an Indian tourist?
Nazreen, a flight attendant from India, shared her brief experience in Vancouver:
“We’re just here for two days, but I must say, the people in Canada are very different. I’ve never come across a rude person here.”
Nazreen’s observations highlight the welcoming nature of Canadians. While the stereotype of Canadians being overly nice often gets thrown around, it’s nice to confirm that this is truly how tourists perceive us!

Cultural Differences in Dating between India and Canada
A student from India told us the difference between the dating culture and how he had to adjust to the lifestyle here:
“Dating here is so different from India. Back home, arranged marriages are common, but here it’s freer. You get to meet a diverse range of people, which is a new experience for me.”
His insights highlight the shift from traditional to modern dating practices and the cultural adjustments that come with it. Do people enjoy the freedom or do they sometimes wish they could go back to the traditional way of life?
Is work-life better in Canada compared to India?
Rohan, originally from India, has navigated a significant career and cultural shift since moving to Vancouver for his IT career. When asked to describe the city in three words he said “Awesome, awesome, and awesome!”
He mentions that working long hours is the norm back home, while in Vancouver, the work-life balance seems more relaxed. Here he has more time for his family and friends while back home all his time would go in working.
Despite his patriotism for the city, he shares that Canada is just not worth it anymore. Due to the recent inflation, he believes that the U.S would be better for those wanting to pursue an IT career.
