Have you ever thought about what is it like to be dating in this generation? We asked GenZ what they think makes or breaks a relationship, and the results are a fun ride through the dating do’s and don’ts of today’s world. From social media rules to ex drama, here’s what the next generation thinks when it comes to finding the right person.
Dating in Vancouver, or dating in general requires some confidence. It also evolves as quick as a starving virus for hosts. Understanding the language that describes dating situations can help you navigate this uncharted territory. This blog post covers all latest lingo essentials you need to feel confident and validated when bravely walking our into the dating world.
Social Media and Dating: A Must-Have?
Does it matter if your significant other doesn’t have any social media? Turns out, this is a deal-breaker for a lot of people. One person said, “How else will I send them Reels?” Others agreed that being able to share memes or quick messages is, honestly, part of the relationship.
But even with social media they better text back quickly! Anything over a day to respond? Red flag.
The Ex-Factor
What about someone who’s still close with their ex? This one got a big red flag from almost everyone. Being civil is fine, but being bestfriends? Nah. If you liked each other that much, why did you breakup?
Career Goals vs. Quality Time
High-paying job but traveling all the time? That’s a beige flag, which is apparently in between red and green. Sure, chasing your dreams is great, but if you’re barely ever around, it’s a no-go. The consensus was that as long as they keep in touch and make you feel like a priority, it could work. Balance, people!
Money Matters
Surprisingly, being budget-conscious is a green flag. Gen Z is all about that practical life—saving up, spending wisely, and planning ahead. With everything getting more expensive, dating someone who knows how to save is definitely a win. “Find someone who’s not gonna blow their whole paycheck every Friday night,” one participant joked.
Talking Politics? Mixed Feelings
When it comes to expressing strong opinions on politics or religion right away, opinions were split. Some felt it’s a great way to find common ground, while others were like, “Keep it chill at the start, please.” Talking about big topics can make or break that first connection, but a few people thought it was worth diving into early on. Check out this video and their reactions to this topic.
A Long History of Relationships?
If someone has a string of long-term relationships but is single now, it’s…complicated. For some, it’s a red flag—why haven’t things worked out before? But others thought, “Hey, sometimes it just doesn’t work out, and that’s okay.”
What Do You Think? The dating game has its quirks, but Gen Z knows what they want (and don’t want). Which of these is a deal-breaker for you? Or maybe you’re totally fine with a beige flag?
