Vancouver is known for its vibrant neighbourhoods, each offering a unique lifestyle and charm. We hit the streets to ask locals about their favourite Vancouver neighbourhoods, and their answers highlighted just how diverse this city truly is.

Kitsilano: A Beloved Gem

Many locals couldn’t get enough of Kitsilano. One resident raved about the friendly atmosphere, local shops, and, of course, the beaches. “It’s great for Louie to go swimming,” they said, referring to their dog. While Kits might be known for its beauty and vibes, some noted that it’s become pricey, though longtime homeowners don’t feel it as much.

Downtown’s Buzz

Despite its hustle, downtown still holds a special place in many hearts. From the bustling streets to its proximity to everything, downtown Vancouver keeps its appeal. Downtown is also known for its accessibility; it’s easy to get around on foot, by bike, or using public transit. The area is full of life, with endless dining options, shops, cafes, and a wide variety of theatres and nightclubs, making it one of the most dynamic Vancouver neighbourhoods.

From Mount Pleasant to Main Street

When comparing Yaletown, Mount Pleasant, and Gastown, locals showed a soft spot for Mount Pleasant, with its lively yet laid-back vibe. The thrifting, food, and drinks on Main Street also make it a local favourite, drawing people in with its lively energy. “Main Street has a lot of good food, drinks, and thrifting options,” one local shared, noting it as one of the must-visit Vancouver neighbourhoods.

East Van and the North Shore

Others showed a strong love for East Vancouver and the North Shore. “I live in East Van, so I’d say that’s my favourite,” one person said. Another gave a shout-out to the North Shore for its peace and proximity to nature. While some prefer quieter neighbourhoods like Dunbar or even New Westminster, they all agreed that Vancouver’s charm comes from its diverse neighbourhoods and access to both urban life and natural beauty.

Food, Coffee, and Nightlife

When it comes to food, Vancouver’s diversity shines again. Baby Doll Pizza on Commercial Drive is a must-visit for its Caribbean-inspired flavours, and the iconic Joe Forte’s offers some of the best seafood around. Need a coffee break? Joe’s Cafe on Commercial Drive has been a local institution for over 60 years, serving great coffee and ice cream, truly a staple among Vancouver neighbourhoods.

For those seeking a night out, places like Studio and The Roxy stand out as favourite spots for dancing and live entertainment. Whether you’re into salsa at Studio or a classic night at The Roxy, Vancouver’s nightlife has something for everyone.
