Vancouver is known for many things—beautiful scenery, hikes, and great people—but dating is not one of them. Trying to find the right person can feel harder than hiking up Grouse Mountain! While we all hope for that magical connection, sometimes the date just turns into a hilarious story you’ll be telling for years. We hit the streets of Vancouver to ask local men about their most memorable Vancouver dating experiences. From getting catfished to dog fights, Vancouver is full of bizarre, funny and downright unexpected dating stories.
Dogs on Dates: Good or Bad Idea?
One Vancouver local shared a story about a date that took an unexpected (and slightly aggressive) turn. “I went on a date with a girl, and we took her dog for a walk. Things were going fine until her dog attacked another dog. It was pretty bad,” he told us, shaking his head with a smile.
It’s safe to say that a dog fight can really change the vibe of a romantic evening.Despite the dog drama, he said the date wasn’t a total disaster. While nothing romantic came of it, they stayed friends—and hey, at least he got a great story out of it!

Can Zodiac Signs be dealbreakers?
Another local had a short but hilarious story about a date that ended before it even really began. “I went on a date, and like 10 minutes in, she asks me what my star sign is. I say Capricorn, and she immediately says, ‘It’s not going to work out.'”
Apparently, star signs are no joke in the dating world. But what really sealed the deal was that he had picked her up for the date and still had to drive her back home after being rejected. Now that’s what you call adding insult to injury!
Star sign compatibility is a big deal to some, and for others, well, not so much. Sometimes the stars just don’t match- literally.
The Catfish Trap
When you sign up for a date, you expect to meet the person you’ve been chatting with online, right? Well, not in this case. One local shared a particularly strange dating experience with us that could easily be the plot of a rom-com gone wrong.
“The person who showed up looked completely different from her profile picture—and it wasn’t even her in the photo. She had used her cousin’s picture!” Using a cousin’s photo? That’s a new level of creativity (or desperation).
But our man didn’t waste any time in making his feelings known. He told her that what she had done was unethical and he was going to report her profile on the dating site.
Well take his story as a lesson. This story is a reminder of the importance of honesty, especially in the world of online dating. Showing up as your authentic self is the best way to form connections.
What’s Your Wildest Vancouver Date Story?
As these stories show, dating in Vancouver is anything but boring. From pet-related disasters to astrological deal breakers, the local dating scene is full of unexpected moments. Have you experienced a strange, funny, or unforgettable date in Vancouver? We’d love to hear your story! Share it with us in the comments or on social media. After all, the best part of a bad date is the great story that comes out of it.
